Barrow’s
Goldeneye
They get their name from their striking, bright yellow-gold eyes that stand out sharply against their dark faces.
They are cavity nesters. They often use old Pileated Woodpecker holes or natural tree cavities—sometimes up to 48 feet high—as well as artificial nest boxes.
Ducklings are exceptionally self-sufficient; just one to two days after hatching, they leap out of their high tree nests to the ground or water and begin feeding entirely on their own.
