Common
Gull

Larus canus

Common gulls practice "foot-paddling," rapidly stamping their feet on the ground to create vibrations that trick earthworms and insects into thinking it is raining so they crawl to the surface.

Unlike the larger herring gull, which features a bright red spot on its yellow bill, the common gull has a plain greenish-yellow to bright yellow bill with no red mark.

Despite being called the "common gull," it is actually scarcer in many regions (such as the UK) than other species like the black-headed gull or herring gull.
