Common
Tailorbird

Orthotomus sutorius

It builds its nest by piercing the edges of large leaves and "sewing" them together using plant fibers, spider silk, or even stolen thread to form a leafy cradle.

Its genus name, Orthotomus, means "straight-cutting," and the species name, sutorius, means "cobbler" or tailor.

It was immortalized as the character Darzee the tailorbird in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book.
