Crimson
Sunbird

They can hover mid-air like hummingbirds to sip nectar from flowers with their brush-tipped tubular tongues, though they usually prefer to perch while feeding.

It is the unofficial national bird of Singapore, and its species name (siparaja) comes from its traditional Malay name, Kelicap Sepah Raja.

The species shows strong sexual dimorphism. Males sport bright crimson, maroon, and metallic blue-green feathers, while females are a modest, camouflaged olive-green.
