Northern
Gannet

Morus bassanus

They have special subcutaneous air sacs under their skin and chest that inflate to cushion the violent impact with the water.

Their nostrils are located inside their mouths rather than on the bill, naturally sealing shut during high-impact entry.

Though most dives are relatively shallow, they can plunge as deep as 72 feet, using both their wings and webbed feet to swim and chase down fish.
