Pied-imperial
Pigeon

Ducula bicolor

They are obligate fruit-eaters (frugivores) that can swallow large fruits—such as wild figs and nutmegs—whole. Their jaw sockets stretch like a boa constrictor's to fit objects larger than their heads.

They are remarkably strong and nimble flyers with larger, stronger flight muscles than many similar-sized birds. This allows them to regularly cross large stretches of open ocean between small offshore islands.

Instead of using oil to groom and maintain their feathers, they possess specialized powder down feathers that break down into a fine dust to keep their plumage clean.
