Pinyon Jays can carry roughly 40 pine seeds at once in an expandable esophagus, then cache them for later.

One single bird can hide about 2,600 seeds in the fall. A large flock can store up to 4.5 million seeds. They remember where they hid their food months later, even digging through deep snow to find exact cache spots.

They live in groups of 500 or more birds. Many stay with the same flock from birth to death.

Pinyon Jays are responsible for the planting of millions of pine trees.
