Ring-necked
Duck
Despite its name, the chestnut-colored ring around its neck is extremely difficult to see in the field; the bright white ring around its bill is much more noticeable.
Unlike most diving ducks that struggle to take off and must run across the water surface, Ring-necked Ducks can spring and leap directly up into the air from the water like puddle ducks.
They swallow small mollusks and snails whole, using their muscular gizzards to crush the hard shells.
