White-eyed
Vireo

Vireo griseus

Juvenile members of this species actually have dark gray eyes. They do not develop white irises until they reach adulthood.

The White-eyed Vireo bathes by rubbing its body against dewy foliage in the morning.

While many songbirds nest high up, White-eyed Vireos build suspended, cup-shaped nests hanging from the forks of twigs, usually less than 1 m from the ground in dense vegetation.

Like other vireos, males and females both incubate the eggs and contribute to feeding nestlings.
