American Bison

American Bison are the largest land mammal in North American, male bison (bulls) can weigh up to 2,000 pounds, while females (cows) reach up to 1,000 pounds and despite their massive size, can run up to 35 to 40 miles per hour.

Their large shoulder humps contain massive muscles that allow them to swing their heads from side to side, acting like a snow plow to clear snow and reach grass in the winter.

A bison's tail acts as a mood ring; if the tail hangs down, they are calm, but if it stands straight up, they may be ready to charge.
